Review

I could suggest scrolling halfway down the Pyongyang Plastics blog, to the section labelled 'PYONGYANG PLASTICS' WEBSITE OF THE WEEKEND # 1 + MUSIC', but I shall not do such a thing. You should visit, read and enjoy, before arriving at their nice words about midwich's running repairs.

Black Dogs & SIGNALVOID Requests

So, two interesting looking projects wanting people to submit work. The first request is from West Yorkshire's premier DIY art collective - Black Dogs;

"DIY art collective Black Dogs are asking for submissions of 3 minute (max) long audio pieces to become part of a 16 hour long ‘radio broadcast’ in the ‘Handmade in Bradford’ unit (Bradford) last weekend of May. The space in which the recordings will be played is a former Virgin Megastore/Zavvi and we will be playing back the audio as if it were the In Store radio over the course of the weekend. We welcome a range of submissions including songs/music, field recordings, interviews, plays, spoken word and so forth responding to the theme of ‘Commercial Break’. Original work authored by the submitter or non-copyrighted material is preferred. Audio should be sent as an mp3 file to Black Dogs blackdogsleeds@yahoo.com by 5pm Monday May 7th."

Then there's a request from SIGNALVOID;

"SIGNALVOID is a noise music compilation.

Participants create up to three noise tracks, each of exactly a minute in length, with no silence at either end.

The whole release will be designed to be played on shuffle. Submissions must be in 16-bit wav format and received by July 1st 2012. Tracks must be new/original material.

Track filenames should be formatted as follows:
[artistname] - [trackname].wav.

Send all tracks to the following email address:
signal.void@hotmail.co.uk"

Ante-MUSIC

Ooh, a lovely flyer for the Ante-MUSIC event on May 5th; now with added Pifco (Woo!), McWatt and DJs from No Hands, as well as Hagman...

More details on Facebook.

It's Not All Noise...

But, it mostly is...

ap martlet has done a lovely, super fizzy remix of 'new territories' from the latest midwich release on Striate Cortex.

And, to prove that not all of it is noise, here's the mixtape I made for Kate Jackson's ALLONE event. It's a tasty slice of filthy lounge loveliness, soundtracks, oddities and moments of interest...

Also available to download...

Hagman Gigs

Bad Fotography quite enjoy Hagman at Wharf Chambers. Take nice picture. Super.

And, through the wonders of modern technology, you can listen to it here;

Also, there are now more details about the Ante - BOOKFAIR, EXHIBITION, MUSIC, WORKSHOPS on their website and on the Facebook Event Page. Hagman will be playing as part of the evening do on May 5th, Kikgate Centre, Shipley.

Review

There's a lovely review of running repairs, and the split midwich / The Skull Mask release, over at Idwal Fisher...

(scan from Idwal Fisher)

I'll say, for the record, that bosky (track c. of running repairs) is a current favourite for cardio workouts at the gym. Highly recommended, both for the surreal nature which it lends my exercise regiment and for the driving, hypnotic drone. Yummy.

Product and Performance

Morning all (he says, implying that there are readers other than the author),

Just a quick post to say that the new midwich release - running repairs - from Striate Cortex (which ensures both beauty and quality) is now available and yours truly features on the opening track, in a super-special "midwich as power duo" experiment.

(Scan by Rob Hayler)

I'd say more about it, but Rob says everything and more, over at the excellent radio free midwich.

As for Hagman - the other power duo that I'm a founder and full-time member of - we have a gig next Tuesday, that's April 17th, at the lovely Wharf Chambers, in the sunshine city of Leeds. This is with friends of Sheepscar Light Industrial, Galaxians (you may spot my re-edit of one of their tracks over at their SoundCloud) and Clara Clara, who I am currently unfamiliar with. Facebook event thingy (with no mention of Hagman) here...

There's also another Hagman gig on May 5th, at the Kirkgate Centre, Shipley, as part of the Ante exhibition and bookfair, quoting from the Kirkgate Centre website;

"Celebrating May Day in Shipley, Ante takes the idea of art and scrapes off the dogma, the commercialism and the elitism. Ante explores and celebrates the use of art as an expression of free will and a megaphone for those whose collective voices struggle to be heard."

Sounds good to me...

I'll also be over in Warrington next Thursday (April 19th), supplying some sounds before and during ALLONE.

ALLONE is presented by Pyramid & Parr Hall and Kate Jackson Projects, featuring five solo performances from Genevieve Say, Jen Hale, Jo Ashbridge, Gavin Coward and Kate Jackson, performing Solo. Solo was the second project I'd collaborated with Kate on, composing and designing the sound.

Errr... Hello, I guess...

Hello there, this is Dan (Daniel Thomas) and I thank you for visiting Sheepscar Light Industrial; which is where you're at right now. Sheepscar Light Industrial is a record label. It is my record label. Woo!

I'm not sure if an actual record will ever get produced, but that's a nice thought, isn't it? At present, the idea is that, each month, I'll be producing a limited run of fifty (50) CD-R discs, packaged in a reasonably fetching manner. These discs will be purchasable for the price of their postage and packaging, plus any donation you see fit to throw my way in sympathy / appreciation. The latter would be the ideal, however the former shall not be sniffed at...

That's all for now. Laters,

Dan
